American Pie – the song that really turned me on to making music. I’d listened to the Beatles, Buddy, Elvis etc, but this song just grabbed me.
So, Martin release a Don McLean Artist guitar, they planned to make 71 I believe, but only 50 were released. I got one! eBay purchase, always risky for guitars, but there wasn’t another available anywhere. I got lucky, and this is possible the easiest acoustic to play in my whole collection. The strings feel like they are at very low tension, effortless to hold down.
Gigged extensively during my Open Mic years, along with my Gibson J200, Don’s D40 has earned its keep. Just awesome.
